every time we plug in trailer cable it lows fuse #29 10 amp owners manual sez this fuse is CUSTOMER SERVICE called dealer service dept person on phone DIDN'T know what it means either. Anybody out there happen to know what this meansd and the cure.
thanks
Your post is a bit hard to read and understand but what do you mean by "rewired old trailer" and "2005 F-250 factor installed brakes and bumper plug" ?
Did you wire up your own trailer harness?
Maybe your trailer wiring has a short somewhere?
I should hope your F250 came with brakes installed!
Yes it came with factory installed trailer brakes and electrical hookups.
Talked with the shop that did the trailer wireing he said the #29 fuse keeps blowing without the trailer plugged in. Need to know what fuse #29 is for
all it sez in the owners manual is #29 customer service.
Hmmm did you purchase this truck new from the dealership? Are there any aftermarket modifications that require electrical power? #29 may be something that powers the trailer brake or the upfitter switches.
bought new. Only put 4700 miles on it since we bought it. No after market mods did not have the upfitter switches put on. Will have dealer check it out when we take it in for the 5000 service.
Wait, is the fuse blowing when the trailer is plugged in, or when it is not plugged in? You have siad both now?
If it is blowing something any time you plug the trailer in, I am guessing the guy has a short somewhere in the trailer wiring, or has the plug wired up wrong.
Fuse 29 is a ignition powered lead that is white with a blue tracer on most trucks I've seen. It comes out near the trailer harness plug to the right of the driver. It is possible it got pinched somewhere. Not sure why it would be noticeable that the fuse got blown??? Must be wired into something else.
My '06 manual says fuse 29 is CUSTOMER ACCESS, not customer service. To me that means the customer can use that fuse for your own accessories. You need to figure out where that fuse lead is going.
Someone wired up that access to something that uses MOST of the 10 amps assigned...adding the trailer lights and brakes to it overloads the circuit...and POP goes the fuse.
What would be the cure? could you replace the 10amp fuse with a 20amp?
or would that cause more problems? The mechanic said it popped the fuse BEFORE he plugged in the trailer.

How would he know? And what problem is it causing? What exactly "popped" the fuse?
When that fuse blows what does it affect? what doesn't work? If the truck came from the factory with the brake controller already installed then there would have been no reason for him to touch antying inside the truck. Just wire up the trailer and plug it in. Unless he added a extra power wire to go out to the trailer to charge the brake away batter on the trailer.
