Another Leveling kit ???

I know there are tons of threads about leveling kits, but I can't find an answer for this one, so here goes.

Looking over on evil bay, I see that there are really 2 basic types of leveling kits for my 05 F-350 4x4 CC LB SD. There is the aluminum block kit that goes under the lower spring bucket and the steel spacer type that goes on top, between the top of the coil and the upper bucket. So what's the big difference? Which is better and why? What will hold up the best, as in last longer? I really only want to go up 2" to level the truck out as this is a work truck (plow in the winter and tow a LOT the rest of the year) as well as my daily driver. I plan on putting on a set of the Bilstein 5100 shocks and 35's after I get the leveling kit. I just want to get the spacer that will last and handle the abuse.

Thanks!!

Functionally, top or bottom would be the same. It's just a block. I'd just take a look at the design of the two and decide which I liked best. I've only seen the one that goes on top, and it has a rubber spacer to keep the spring ends from squeaking and grinding into the spacer. Never seen the one on the bottom.

So, pick your favorite vendor and go for it. Not a big deal.

I had the Daystar spacers which are polyurethane and replace the factory top rubber spacers. They give 2-3/4" lift, work great, and are inexpensive. You do need to get longer shocks also.

I bought the springs from this company in Canada...2 1/2 lift...and then went and bought some longer shocks...No alignment needed...easy install. They show pictures with 37's fitting on.

I saw the pics of your SD...very nice. Im planning on installing a leveling hit, and just wondering why you went with new springs instead of just putting the spacer blocks in?

Thanks

If I were to do it again, I would install some progressive springs...the new springs appear to be designed for a diesel...heavier front end..to rough on these california roads..second choice would be with the poly spacers.

Glad I found this thread... I have a few related questions/ comments

I just installed my Bllizzard 810 plow this weekend on my '07 F350 sc lwb 6.0. The truck does not have the plow prep package and the ever-popular "computer selected springs" (???) that come with it. The plow weighs about 950 lbs so it pulls the truck down about 2- 2.5." I was thinking of the leveling kit beacause I don't want to lose the ride quality the rest of the year, but i'd like the truck to sit close to level. My last truck was an '02 sd, and with the leveling kit (basically a big pile of springs) it rode pretty rough. I recently read a thread about replacing the springs with the higher capacity ones like those that come with the plow package or the heavy service susp. package. Would that really make that much difference? Just looking for another opinion.

Has anyone found a decent 18" load range E (maybe D) tire? Looking all-terrain/ highway. I like the mastercraft CT for traction, but they are a D tire and are big $$ in an 18. Maybe all 18's are I haven't researched it a lot. But I will say that whoever decided the Conti's were a good idea on an F350 "OFF ROAD" should have to come push my truck every time I get stuck on wet grass. I have also considered selling my 18's and buying some 17's of evilbay since the 17's seem to be cheaper and have a lot more choices.

And whoever thought it would be a good idea to put the wires for the upfitter switches behind the fuse panel, and then put the fuses for these circuits on the opposite side of the truck behind the glove box, in a position you practically have to stand on your head to reach, should be kicked in the nuts. Repeatedly.

marcs724,

I will sell you my springs...(2000 miles on them) Would work perfect for your application...2 1/2 lift with extra capacity..Just to stiff for my V10 running around empty. Otherwise a great spring.

After readiing this and a few other related threads, I called the guys that installed my leveling kit, BUT didnt change the shocks to longer models, and asked him the same question. He said there was still plenty of "travel" room left in the stock (FX4 ranchos) when he checked them, after installing the lift, therefore I dont need new shocks.

Could he be correct? wouldnt I notice a knock when going over bumps etc and hear the shock topping out?

You know I asked the same question and was told the same..There FOS, you need longer shocks..thats why the shock manufactures make shocks that are 2-3 longer travel. I was pissed when I put the springs in and felt the shock topping out over speed bumps and such. I have the FX4 also.

I even called him back AGAIN, to triple check and he looked it up and said that the Ranchos alow up to 3" of lift, and went on to say but if you want longer shocks Id be gald to take your money! but you dont need em! so idk??????

But the truth is I dont think I hear or feel it topping out??? Anyone else have any input?
