I have a 98 F150 Off Road w/4.6 Romeo and have read with interest about the various tuners available for our trucks.
I have approx 125K miles and everything is still stock, including tires.
I've avg'ed around 17mpg since new.
I am interested in increasing my mpg as a primary goal and also increasing my performance as a secondary goal.
I live in very hilly terrain which means I'm constantly shifting in & out of OD when on back roads. So usually I run w/OD off and the truck doesn't shift nearly as much and it's performance is more up to par. Course not running in OD for a miles @ a constant 45mph has to burn more fuel than if I were in OD so mpg and performance would seem to go hand in hand for me.
I'm not interested in modifying the intake or exhaust or adding any other hardware as the stock setup has served me very well for alittle over 9 yrs now.
With all that said, what is the most popular affordable tuner that will meet my goals?
Thanks
Dave
I would recommend a transmission shift kit or a module then. As long as increasing mpg is the goal then performance will take a hit (you do need to run premium with the tuners). Skinny street tires will provide the biggest mpg increase. The fatter and more aggressive the tire, the harder it is to increase fuel mpg.
