I've owned my 06 SCREW for about 3 months and just now discovered there is no light under the hood. Is this an option or did Ford just decide it wasn't needed?
Perhaps it was a cost cutting measure. Or perhaps they figure you'll never have to open the hood for any reason so why put it in there. Just adding weight for something of no use.(tongue firmly planted in cheek)
I'm guessing its due to weight. Seriously. The 2007 saw even more weight reduction and other measures to help boost performance. Some of the sound deadening material isn't as thick in a couple of places where it doesn't make a difference (I can't hear a difference when I'm in Jay's 2007). The plastic cover over the top of the radiator is significantly smaller than it used to be, factory headers also added in 2007, radiator fan clutch is computer controlled instead of a heat driven clutch, etc.

You pretty much answered your own question. With today's vehicles such that you need basically need a dealership diagnostic computer to work on them, the need for the light has (pardon the pun) faded. So, it's both a cost and weight reduction. You'll also notice you don't have a light in your glove box.
Thanks for the feedback, I have always been a GM man until they wouldn't deal with me on a new truck. I truly like this truck better than anything I've ever owned. However I did like the light under the hood which was on a cable and would reach to the back of my truck. Thanks again!
Yup I miss the under hood and glove box lights as well. In the not too distant past vehicles used to come with lights in the center console and even the ash trays. These trucks are so heavy anyway, I would gladly deal with a pound or too extra just for the convenience.
I have a 1989 GMC that has a light under the hood that is on a small reel. The wire is long enough to reach the rear tires so you can use it for road side emergencies. I was thinking of plundering the bone yard for one and add to my F150. Shouldn't be hard to do.
