Hi everyone. I was wondering if any manufacturers made an electronic distributor that I could put in my 70 with a 360? I figured that might be a nice reliable upgrade for my truck. Any thoughts/opinions?
James there are several manufactures that make a electronic dist. for your engine. Mallory,MSD,Accel....Or Pertronix makes a conversion kit that you can just add to you dist. in about 1/2 hour with out removing the dist. from the truck. I run one of these on my truck with good sucess. Plus its less than half the price of a dist. Just take a look at the pic. below and you will see what I'm talking about. Hope this helps. Tony
As the previous post mentioned, MSD, Accel, Mallory all make electronic distributors. Pentronics is a good unit and provides good bang for the buck.
One thing to consider is that the MSD unit does not have a vacuum advance feature and requires the purchase of a MSD ignition box. It is a good unit but pricey.
I've been wondering about converting my 352 over to electronic as well. The DuraSpark piques my interest, are they availbale at the dealerships, or? Internet research hasn't led to anyone selling them.
for what it is worth you can get a duraspark dizzy at autozone. here in Oklahoma they run $49.95 with a $40.00 core its still cheaper than MSD, Mallory or anysothers that I have read about including the pertronix. hope that helps
Jeff
If you get the Duraspark dizzy to replace a non-electronic one, I assume that you have to get all the parts like the box and wiring, and that's gonna cost you time and money.
The Pertronix works great for me, and as stated above, it takes almost no time to install (depending on how you choose to install it).
I got a pertronix ignitor and a new coil for less than $100.
Yeah, I'm leaning toward the Pertronix now, too... seems simple enough to install, and everyone who has one seems to be satisifed with it.
