I found some replacement A/C vents for my 77 at a junkyard and need to know the best way to remove them without breaking them. I can feel the tabs on the sides so I know how they are mounted, just can't get them out without breaking the tabs.
I really only need the swivel part of the vent but I didn't want to destroy it trying to only remove it.
Use a thin blade or ice pick through the louvers to try away the upper and lower tabs to allow the pivots to clear the housing..then pull the louver assembly out the register housing

Also, I would use the blade/pick on the lower pivot, then work it out of the housing (it won't want to come out but it will) and you should get it out. Do it while it is still warm out, because they get very brittle in the cold.
I just removed all the louvres out of my 75 to clean them and this is how I did it. Just be careful and you won't break any.
I went back and got the driver's side vent and one of the center vents for safe keeping. Also scored an ignition module (with the blue grommet), two bumper bolts, a screw for my washer reservior, and 6 brand new fishing flies--all for $10.
It's crazy how much personal stuff can be found in junkers.
