Well I'm only guessing its a 302 (4.9ltr) going off the carby as it is very small.....the car salesman said it was a 351....what size V8 did they come out in back in 1977?????
There is a couple of pic in my gallery labled CATFORDS 1977 F100....maybe that will help anyone....unfortunatley its not a great pic of the engine!!!
If it's a 351M, it's got a C-6 behind it. Could also be a 400, only way to tell is the ID tag on the valve cover (if it's there and the motor hasn't been molested since new)
I just looked, thats more'n likely a 351C, definately ain't a Windsor and now that I see you're "down under" I doubt it's either a 351M or 400. Transmission? That I can't tell you, other than you'll have one of these three: C-4, FMX or C-6 if it's an automatic. The C-4 has a removeable bellhousing, with the bell bolts inside the bell. The FMX also has a removeable bell, looks like a manual with the bell bolts outside, and a cast iron main case, C-4 case is aluminum The C-6 has a one piece bell and main case, all aluminum.
Thanks for the feedback guys....I ve decided to go and pick it up Tomorrow now instead of Friday.....so i will look at all the things you have pointed out.
Aus had a destroked 351c that was the 302c. It looks like the M because the M block was based off the 351c. Only way to tell what it is is to see how long the stroke is on the motor. If the engine label says 302 then it probably is the 302c.
