Keys and remotes
On the keys, though... do you have the transponder keys? You can tell by looking at the plastic head of the key. If the keyring hole is offset from the center, and the plastic head is an inch wide or wider, then you have what is referred to as a chipped key, or a transponder key. Not cheap. Dealer wants $35 each for these keys, but if you only have one current key that works, then the dealer will also charge $75 to program a second key. You can program the third and fourth keys yourself. A local locksmith will also typically charge about $65, which is less than the dealer, but still price gouging in my book.
I just purchased extra transponder keys for my 2003 EB Excursion, so I know exactly what I'm talking about on this issue. I did manage to purchase new, uncut transponder keys for about $12 or $14 each from a company called Transponder Island, Inc (located in Cleveland, OH). You can also get generic transponder keys from them for a few bucks less for each key, but I wanted the actual Ford keys. I still have not had the keys cut yet, which anyone can do for a few bucks each. It just really p***** me off to have to pay that much for some simple programming that only takes a few minutes. If I get my copy of AutoEnginuity soon, the Complete Ford Package deal includes the ability to do this programming yourself, but the program with the Ford package is near $400 - I'm going to be getting it anyway because its the best scanning and troubleshooting tool available right now.
Hope this helps.
thats where i got my spares set of remotes from, and he even shipped them to the uk at minimal charge.
