I am going to be removing the three speed OD trans system from my 65 longbed and installing a 390/C6. Am I going to have to get a driveshaft built to custom length? I may install the 390/C6 in a shortbed 65 I just picked up. I think I have the driveshaft from that truck, but it currently has no motor or transmission so I have no idea what transmission this driveshaft may have gone to. Has anyone done this swap that can give me some guidance?
If anyone is interested in the OD system contact me. As far as I know it is complete and I have another transmisison and OD unit from my other truck as well. I am in Arlington Texas. cdoyle at kdwlawtx dot com
The best and easiest thing to do is get a new driveshaft made up. I foound that to be true when I replaced my OD with a C-6.
Insert the slip yoke into the C-6 to the wear point on the seal, and measure from the center of the C-6 yoke trunnion to the center of the rear end's pinion trunnion.
Take the slip yoke and the U-joint that mates to the rear end to the machinist, and they will get it right.
I fussed around way too much with trying to make things fit, and this was the best way to do it.
If you have a bolt-on yoke out of the back of the C-6, you will need to cut (or possibly lengthen) the forward driveline.
Measure from the center of the C-6 trunnion to the center of the carrier bearing.
Use the U-joint from the C-6 and the measurement, and they will make it up.

I have someone more or less local that is interested in the transmission. I am asking $100 for the one that is out of the truck. I will look at that one to see what numbers I can find for you. I believe it is the stock OD 3 speed that came with the 352 for 1965. I have never taken it apart and I do not know its condition. The truck came w/o an engine and the transmission was in the bed.

I am going with a C6 because I expect my son will be driving it some. He just got his permit and I do not think it would be wise to have him trying to work a three on the tree (and O/D) at this early stage in his driving career. I also was planning to lightly modify the truck so I am not concerned with originality.
