Mpg

I have a 97 auto f350 2wd that gets 18 mpg all day long. I bought a 97 f350 5spd, put straight pipe on it not cat or muffler, new fuel filter and changed oil and drive it like a baby and only getting 15.8 mpg. Does anybody have an idea why this 5spd gets less mpg that auto with same set up. I thought for sure the 5spd would get 20 if the automatic gets 18 under same conditions and drive habits. Both have around 240k miles.

to each its own, they are all different, do they both have the same gears? the 350 may have 4.10's while your 2wd has 3.55's.

Is the 5spd a 4x4.that makes a difference. I have found "babing" sometimes cost milage, get it up to speed then keep it in the power curve. This has made a difference on 3 of the trucks i've owned gas or diesel.I'm not saying thrash it up to speed either but if your taking it really easy then your also spending more time out of the economy range.
