differance between OBS and 99+

What are the main differances between the two (preformance wise).

The reason I ask is I have a 96 4x4 ext cab long bed 7.3 and my buddy jus got a 99 4x4 ext cab short bed. His is lifted on i think 35s and mine is stock on 285s. We raced and we were neck and neck untill his truck stoped spinning and hooked up and the he pulled away.(mine never spun) We both have the same basic stuff done programer, intake, and exhuast. I cant have him keep betting me.

The differances i know of are intercooler, 17* hpop, and IDM

Any thing esle?

Thanks
John

bigger injectors, better tranny, different (not really better) turbo, higher HP stock. But the big thing is the bigger injectors that are supported by the IC, HPOP and IDM.

To beat him you need a set of stage 1 injectors, a TW or DP chip along with gauges it you don't already have them. Also with the bgger injectors you need to address your tranny or it will die a very short, hot painful death.

perhaps i should rephrase to avoid confusion, all powerstrokes are obdII, the universal connector under the dash makes it obdII compliant. the pcm from a 99 is no better than a pcm from a 97, they are not interchangable, the 99-ups are faster because of the injectors and hpop's and different turbos not the pcm's, the idm from a 99-up is better and is a direct swap, i think 02 and 03 are more volts then the 99-01

I know its not a direct swap due to the split shot injectors being ran by it, but could it be reflased to our years?

if its reflashed then the whole point of the swap is defeated, i dont beleive it would work. the only way is if you got a blank pcm and manually programmed it using ford's AS BUILT data but even then all you would succesfully do is put a box from a superduty in your truck, not a superduty program, the sd program; if it even starts; would have an immediate check engine light due to the missing sensors on the obs trucks. again, there is no benefit from the sd pcm programming

In that case you will soon find it for sale on E-bay. I only paid 15 dollers for it and 15 for the IDM at the same time. I know they sell for several hundred dollers. If it could be reflashed to our years I would keep it as a backup.

Ya, thats why I was there in the first place. It was kind of funny, the IDM and the PCM were like the ONLY thing left of this truck. I dont think Ive ever seen a vehicle stripped as much as this one was. I just couldnt pass up the PCM as well.

Thats what i was planning on doing. Stage 1s, different chip, and im looking at putting an intercooler in out of an 01 7.3l, and i want to find a 17* hpop too. I know a tranny rebuild needs to be in the works too. Oh and once c00n gets the 22k figured out I might try that out too.

Not sure on the gears. The tag is off my truck and I dont know his either. Im pretty sure we both are 3.73 but im not sure.
Cant wait to smoke him

94-97 trucks are either 3.55's or 4.10's, easiest way to tell, if you have stock tires on it at 60 mph with 3.55's you should be around 1800 rpm. with 4.10s at 60 mph you should be over 2000. that or read your door code....lol
i am stuck without the 22k, i dont want to bug my buddy for the ford scanner for a few days to let the whole new baby thing settle in. i need the ngs so i can get pid data and have active command over the solonoids to get a handle on what is happening
