I have a 2001 expedition with awd. When making slow turn either direction, going forwards or backwards, I get an intermittent binding coming from the front drivetrain. I have removed the front driveshaft and the problem went away. I have already replaced the ujoints in the drive shaft and that didn't help. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
It is awd, and the fluids were changed by a drive train shop at 60k. I don't use the 4wd very often and this trouble has started within the last 6 months or so. The shop I am using now thought at first the problem was the rear differential clutches and replaced them. I pulled the front shaft after that and found the trouble gone. They will be looking into the Transfer case and front differential next. Are there clutches in the front differential also? I have read in some of these threads also that the electric motor on the transfer case also seems to cause od troubles
