i have a 2005 5.4 3v in my 250. i put a flowmaster 70 sries muffler on it already and love it. there is on occasions times that i want it LOUD!! and the 70 series isnt quiet loud enough. i remember how all the muscle cars had headers that you could unbolt to run a straight exhaust. i dont want to do that though i was thinking about a cutout that you could put a plate back on to seal it up behind the cat and before the muffler in that long section of pipe. would this cause backpressure when sealed up or would this cause loss in the bottom end. i am just wonderin. any input would help. thnks
They still make the same kind of things, you would just weld them into a different spot. They also make electric cutouts where you can just flip a switch.
I got a 3" cutout from Summit Racing and it works great. Truck runs just fine and is LOUD with it open. I'm thinking about getting an electric controller for it.
Summit and Jegs both have many different styles of manual (get underneath and pull the plate off) electrical and cable operated cutouts for your exhaust.
My buddy ran his 05 strait off the cats for a couple weeks while he was waiting for his exhaust kit to get in. That thing was loud the popping was annoying though.
I've done straight pipe after the catalytic on a Cadillac 500 V-8, it wasn't too loud. I liked it, but I'm a degenerate hot-rod teenage hoodlum rebel at heart. (queue Born To Be Wild background music)
Just a straight pipe (or pipes) on a V-8 can be very annoying for long periods of time.
generalc this was the one i was thinking about buying, because i have a flowmaster 70 series and while i like the tone most of the time. The other half i want it to be louder.
It dont look like they are hard to install but there is always an exhaust shop that could do it for you shouldnt take em that long but i guess it depends
alright youns are gonna thank im stupid but i just took a look under my truck to decide about a convertor size and i didnt see anything that looks like one. my truck was bought new from the dealer. i saw two collectors at the end of the stock headers that could be them. am i blind or somethin. 2005 5.4 xlt supercab
