I have a 1976 F250 with a 360. The intake manifold is of the egr type and one of the ports is completely plugged up with carbon.
My question is: Is it possible to have this manifold cleaned internally or would it be easier to find a new one?
Any comments on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you can take the intake manifold off, the answer is yes, it can be dissolved with lye. Buy drain cleaner like Red Devil Lye in the powder form. Be very careful because this stuff is like very strong acid; it will eat lots of materials (not iron) and can damage skin if left on hands.
Mix a strong solution of this lye (add lye to water, not water to lye - splash hazard) and pour it into the passage. Lye will eat concrete so protect your driveway, etc.
How I usually clean blocked passages is drill them out with a much smaller drill bit until I can fit a wire brush in there. Then stick a small wire pipe cleaner in there and whirl away. I have found once you have made a dent in one end of the passage you can usually push the plug out the other side.
Old thread, but has anyone else ever tried this? I'm working on a 4bbl FE intake to sell right now and I'm grinding the carbon out of there right now, which is what brought me here
I haven't tried it but some heavy chemical should take that stuff out. Maybe plug the ports and fill the passage with carb cleaner, let it sit for a week, and then blow it out with air?
Maybe try some B12, made by Berryman chemicals. It's powerful stuff, eats caked on engine grease like nothing.
