I just realized this evening that the lighting for the three dials for the climate control (2005 250) aren't working. Anyone able to give me some advice on the how to replace?
Finally had a day with enough spare time to tackle this one... so here goes:
1) Popped the dashboard off. Just as everyone says, throw the shifter in 1 and drop the tilt down as far as she goes. Gently pry from bottom right up and around the speedo and across the top.
2) Popped off all the wiring harnesses. What a pain, each one different and attached differently, lots of messing around to get them all off.
3) Locate the bulb. Its a reverse mount kind of bulb, between the fan speed control and the temperature blender. It just needs a quarter turn to come out, but seemed kind of hard to get a grip on. A 1/4" socket fits nicely and can be turned with the fingers to remove the bulb.
Once I had the bulb out (broken bulb...hmmm) time to find a replacement. Ended up back at the stealership when no one else seems to have one. Got ripped off for $10.66 for the bulb (ford part number F57Z-13B765-BA).... sure glad I didn't pay them to change it.
Put it all back together again in reverse order. Took about 10 minutes to get the dash back together and another 20 minutes to clean up all the dirt that's built up on the dash for the last 5 months... dirty, dirty dirty.
Sorry no one replied to you to help sooner, I was away for a while myself... Glad you got it fixed. The stealer charged 10.66? wow... They probably sold you the bulb in the black socket complete right. I've changed them in the Crown Vics before and they should be the same bulbs, the push in instrument panel bulbs, cant remember the bulb #. Or were they the real small bulb that they usually put in the window and headlight switches?
