I picked up the 56 chassis w/Volare IFS for $500...I thought that it would be the best way to go for a quick build on a daily driver PU. My 56 BW is getting a full rebuild w/a number of custom items and will no longer be suitable for trips to the Home Depot. The reason I didn't build the stock 56 frame up with the TCI MII IFS is because I have a 35 Chevy 5W coupe also in the wings waiting for a chassis and I thought that the TCI might find a home in the Chevy. I am in contact with a guy on the HAMB that has a 37 Terraplane w/a Volare IFS...he says he used a K-car power R&P in that car and has had very good service from it for the last 30K miles. I am trading emails with him now but as soon as I get all the info on the power rack setup I'll post it on the FTE board.

I have been working on the other truck and got the one with the Volare waiting in the wings. I haven't heard any more from the HAMB guy but now that it's on my mind I'll contact him to see if he's gotten the photos. I also talked with Weedeter Street Rods who makes a kit, I thought the price was a little steep at first but after talking to the owner I can see where the $595 price is justified and it is a lot less than others I have found. From what I have learned so far about any R&P replacement is that: 1. bumpsteer is an issue...everyone who has attempted this conversion has fought to eliminate bumpsteer. Weedetr says his setup does not have bumpsteer. 2. loss of turning radius. No one that I have spoken to can put a number on it but everyone, including Weedetr, admit that there is some loss of turning radius with the R&P.

My 56 has a volare ifs with a 472 Cadillac engine and 400 turbo trans. It was not necessary to offset the engine .
