Rebuild Options

My new 67 F100 will be here in MI shortly. It runs but does smoke a little. I will want to rebuild it. The cheapest I can find a 352 rebuild kit is $650.00. Plus I would need the machining work done as well. I could go this route but I've found a guy who sells rebuilt engines and wants $1400 - $1600 for an assembled 352 including shipping.
What do you guys think of the price? Should I go for the new engine or rebuild my old one?
Thanks!

Larry

Larry, that price is not too bad, but who is it from ? If all of the work needed is done, that is not a bad price, but ,unfortunately, there are lots of guys selling engines out there who don't do very nice work. Does that include boring and honing ? Hard seats under the exhaust valves ? Oiling improvments ? If you are going to the trouble of rebuiding, why not go with a 390 ? You could use the block and heads you already have. Where in Michigan are you ? DF

And making it a 390 will only add about 300-400 more dollars for the crank and bore job. Maybe slightly more.
