how do you remove a radiator from a 96 f350 7.3, friend borrowed truck and when he brought it bak he drove a branch through radiator. is there any special way to remove the radiator. removed them in other vehicles. do you have to bleed the systym. and why im at replacing cam sensor, the branch broke the new one also
It is real simple once you get the fan and fan shroud off. They have to come off together, the only thing that holds the fan shroud on are the two 8 mm bolts at the top, I loosen the fan with my home made wrench then pull the bolts for the shroud, then take the fan the rest of the way off, it is pretty heavy when it drops off then I lift the fan and shroud out together. After that you remove the three hoses, and there are 4 10 mm bolts two on each side, pull those bolts and the radiater is significantly easier to remove than the fan and fan shroud.
also I updated my truck to electric fans, for 80 bucks, this might be the time for you to consider also, it helps the mileage. You will need basic fabricating skills and tools to do it that cheap though
Sorry to hear that. What a friend he must be. I'd make him buy a replacement and help ya fix it.
I have never removed mine but I'd say it's pretty straightforward. If yours is like mine there is no draincock. Just pull the hose(s) off the bottom and drain it into a bucket. Pull the top hose(s), unbolt the shroud, then the rad, and yank it out. It would be easy to replace the cam sensor w/ the rad out if you had to. Be sure you use NAPAKool additive or some other equivalent with your new coolant.
Bkcowboss, I wouldn't have thought you'd have to pull the fan also. But it still sounds pretty easy.
I'd let the 'friend' get the rad out...or at least help. It come out pretty easy, just heavy though. No bleeding necessary. Fill the though the degas bottle and fire it up and keep adding til it gets to the cold line.
No need to pull the fan, just shove the shoud towards the engine and let it set there till your done. If you're doing the CPS the fan shroud will come out after the rad is out. Don't forget to put it back before the rad goes in. Dooh!!
