I just talked to customer service at Ford and they said they had received no complaints on mileage. if you are having poor mileage contact them at 1 800 392 3673 and they would let the eng. dept know. They said it should be taken back to the dealer so it could have diagnostics done on it and it could be documented. So call Ford if you have a coamplaint about fuel milage. Just gripping on hear won't help any of us.
very true. ford customer service will tell you to bring it us because there could be a issue. new trucks, the mileage will be bad period. manufacturers build these engine so tight it isnt funny, so they take a while to break loose. the only thing we can do, is check for the obvious fuel leaks and boost check. these trucks are not rated for mileage because they are mainly for pulling/hauling purposes only. the 6.4 will be around 20 to 30 % less due to emissions and the ways of the owner. unless the truck has 15k on the odo, i dont pay attention to the mileage reports because there is nothing we can do.
In my experience, there are four things most men lie about. Not neccessarily in this order, their sex life, their bird dog, checks in the mail and fuel milage.... gene
I don't need to call them, I've told the dealer the 3 times I've had it in (600 miles, 5060 miles and 5400 miles). They've checked it, said my 6.4L runs as good as any of them they've seen.
Not sure if everyone comes here to complain first, but I generally only come here after seeking resolution from Ford or other. Not that I'm saying it should be done that way. I figure we all get 1 complaint for every dollar we spend on the vehicle - from the cradle to the grave. Right now that puts the dealer/manufacturer way ahead.
I am glad to know what others are going through. Ford improving or correcting things is up to them, competition is only getting tougher.
Diesel Tech at local dealer reports that the fuel mileage is way up after the latest reflash. Mine is going in next weekend for the reflash.
I would like to know the the TSB number of this flash you are claiming is increaseing the fuel mileage, i spoke to my dealer and they know of no such flash aviable, thanks.
Fuel Mileage is not listed in the TSB. However the tech is saying it fixes some trucks that have extremely low fuel mileage numbers. He says that it changes the REGEN procedure to where it wont regen as often like it is doing on some trucks that are daily driven and never go through a passive regen. Also it fixes the crazy idle during active regeneration along with sluggish shifting.
TSB 07-17-3 6.4L - PCM UPDATE - BUILT BEFORE 7/30/2007 - INTERMITTENT P0342 AND/OR P1336, UPDATE - PTO FUNCTION, TURBO PROTECTION, HIGH IDLE, SHIFT QUALITY AND IC
FORD: 2008 F-Super Duty
This article supersedes TSB 07-16-2 to update the Action required.
ISSUE:
Some 2008 F-Super Duty F-250-F-550 vehicles built before 7/30/2007 and equipped with the 6.4L engine may exhibit one or more of the following concerns:
• Intermittent P0342 or P1336 powertrain control module (PCM) reprogram prior to normal Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Diagnostics)
• Loss of stationary elevated idle control (SEIC) or battery charge protection (BCP) during power take-off (PTO) operation when body is rolled or wheels are rocked
• Turbocharger bearing failure due to very cold ambient temperatures, frozen turbocharger actuator with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P132B at temperatures below freezing
• Unacceptable engine idle RPM ramp rate at cold engine temperatures/cold ambient conditions in Neutral/Park with foot off Brake/Clutch
• Unacceptable engine idle RPM ramp rate during diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration in Neutral/Park with foot off Brake/Clutch
• Transmission upshift quality, engagement duration or feel, and shift busyness or powertrain hunting
This calibration update also includes diagnostic and malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) operation improvements for P200E, P242D and P2033. Follow normal PC/ED diagnostics for symptom or DTC identification.
This calibration also includes instrument cluster (IC) message centre updates for distance to empty (DTE) reads in reverse on dual fuel tank applications, "Engine Warming" turbo protection and "Stop Safely Now" exhaust over temperature warnings.
ACTION:
Reprogram the PCM, Transmission Control Module (TCM), and IC (Reprogram the IC by selecting Module Reprogramming, IC) to the latest calibration using IDS release 50.7 patch 10. When reprogramming the PCM on automatic transmission equipped vehicles the TCM will also automatically be reprogrammed to the latest level. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2007.7 DVD.
