Have any of you guys had problems with the Petronix conversion. I'm tired of burning up points at $10 a whack. When I get my next paycheck I was going to get the electronic conversion, but I wanted to see if anyone has had any problems with it yet.
Ratsmoker posted a problem he had with his a long while back. Might do a search. I think his problem was with the Pertronix II though not the regular pertronix. I think he sent them back for free exchange and had no problems after that. Do the search and put in his user name to narrow the search grid a bit.
Search title should be Pertronix. Then you shold be able to search VIA user names also. I hope this helps.
The Rertronix is one of the most highly praised products that I have seen for conversion. Every now and again you will see a problem, and I suspect the installation or the wiring caused the most of those problems.
For my 2, go for it.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
You are right on John. I did not know it at the time but I had 15+ volts going to everything due to a bad alternator. I think that may have had something to do with it. I didn't send mine back to pertronix becasue the place I bought it agreed to swap it out but pertronix said there would be absolutely no problems if I sent it to them for a swap. I would consider this product very reliable. Even if it does happen to go out keep a set of points in the glove box. It is a 10 minute swap either way.
Thanks guys, how many volts can you send to the dizzy with the petronix before it burns up. Points should be about 8 volts correct? I think I am getting more volts than that right now, causing me to burn up my points. I can go about 2 weeks before I have to file em, or replace em.
The pertronix ignitor module required a 12v feed to work properly. I replaced my coil when I did the conversion and used the pertronix flamethrower. It doesn't require the ballast resistor. I've had it installed for almost a year and it works great, with the added bonus of allowing for larger spark plug gaps.
