Anyone feedback on the Petronix electronic ignition? My F1 has a 351w with points.thinking about the Petronix with maybe a MSD blaster coil?? Just not a points kind of guy lol
I have used the Pertronix on several project cars now. The latest is my F1 with the 351w in it. It basically eliminates all of the wear and adjustment headaches that come with points. All of the cars that I have with the Pertronix system start and run really well.
I don't think you really need the MSD blaster....any good coil will do. I used some generic coil form Carquest. I went with one that doesn't require a ballast resistor. The MSD fits into that category, but they are a little more expensive.
That being said....I needed a 12v coil for my 1955 tractor. The parts store was out of the generic..no ballast type on that particular day, so I bought an MSD that they had in stock (I wanted to get the tractor out of the middle of the field). The chrome coil looks a little out of place, but it has been working for a couple of years now!
Used several Pertronix units with no issues. Great product.
As I recall, Pertronix has some spec'c regarding the coil outputs. Might want to check with them before going MSD. Also, I think Pertronix has their own line of coil, but I've never used them. Stock coils work fine.
Great product. I have one in my 65 Mustang and just put one in my 51' F6. Fires right up. Really easy to install. They do have coils to go with the Ignitor, but I think a decent plane-jane coil is just as good.
