Hey guys
Maybe a dumb question, but I get the drift that engines can throw codes if somethings wrong....now can they do this without illuminating an idiot light? Now if they can , I'd like to pick up a reader....any suggestions on makes and models I should look at? I know the is a huge price difference on different readers and I'm sure they won't do the advanced diagnostics anyway
By the way...This is an awesome site full of helpful info...I read it before bedtime every nite. I even dream about having diesel problems !! or is that nitemares! lmao. Touch wood mine runs like a champ... 03 f550....so far....
sorry guys
I just did a search on readers......ok I'm bent over so if anybody wants first boot...I'd still like to know if they throw codes without idiot lite tho
thanks
Yes, there are some codes that can be triggered & stored on the computer without setting off any of the instrument panel's warning lights. These conditions, and the corresponding codes, are generally trivial in nature by themselves. If a more significant event occurs these codes may help with the diagnosis. And, there are some that are just informational....like the excessive speed code.
