I think my cam is wiped.How can I tell.If it is what cam do you recomend for towing.My truck is a 1977 F-150 4x4 with a 351m.
Thanks,I don't know crap about engines exept how to put em together.
Take a compression test, then remove the valve covers and look at the valve action on any cylinders that tested low while cranking the motor with the ignition disabled. Bad cam lobes will show up as reduced action on the rockers.
The Comp Cams 255DEH is the best for low RPM power, while the Comp XE256 produces a little more power at highway speeds.
What makes you think that the cam is bad. It is more likely that the timing chain is stretched.

Well the reason i think the cam is bad is because we didn't break it in right and do all the other bs that you got to do.The engine is just really slugish. The chain is new do.I am just gessing its the cam.
Mabye its not, here are the sytoms:
If i slowly give it gas, its good with acceleration, but if i get on the gas really fast its like it bogs down, then the engine starts to rev up,but dosen't make the same power as when I accelerate slow.It just kindof pisses me off because my engine makes lots a torque when I tow,but when I want speed theres no power.
I ain't good with words,sorry
I had a similar problem with mine after I rebuilt it. Holley 4160. Moved up a few shooter sizes and a slightly higher pump cam and it took care of the hesitation. Also, you might want to look at the power valve.
