Im trying to decide what cam to put in my 77 F-150 4x4. I have a 408w with Alum. heads and im looking at the Comp cams Xtreme 4x4 series, the biggest one of course, and im wanting to know if anyone in this forum has used this cam and how did they like it

Im an intrested in the build up of your 408, as i have been doing some light reading on it. If you dont mind, could you PM me some specs and some pricing.... It would be greatly apreciated...

As for the cam, i will say i dont know jack about cams, maybe go to the small block v8 forum on here...

Here is a link, Small Block V8 (221, 260, 289, 5.0/302, 5.8/351W) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
Lots of very smart people in there, they can tell you if it would be right for your application and kinda sorta what to expect from it, along with any problems you might come across

Hey whats going on, the motor im building wasnt for my truck at first, i was building it for my 2800 pound 86 lx 4cyl. coupe. I blew up the tranny in my bronco 2 trying to pull my 17ft boat and found myself with nothing to pull my boat so one of my mustangs had to go, and it damn shure was not going to be my 93' cobra, so i traded my 86 for the 77' F-150 4x4 i have today, and now i have this 408 sitting in my garage and naturally the 77 is a perfect donor. The motor is a 89' 351w block, and my next purchase was an Eagle cast steel 4.00 stroker crank, and that ran me around $275. Next i bought the Eagle H-beam connecting rods which are overkill for a truck which cost me $500 and they are 6.200 long, next i bought the Edelbrock rpm air gap intake for good streetability and i have seen a couple buildups where the air gap made huge gains just swapping it on the motors and that ran me about $277 after tax. The aluminum heads i bought are from this company called Patriot, i would recomend getting their heads bare cause the hardware they put in them are junk, i paid $500 for the bare heads and im going to install Comp cams valvetrain hardware in them when i finally decide on a bumpstick. the specs on those heads are 185cc runners which will be good for streetable tourqe, and 2.02 intake vavles and 1.60 exaust valves. the only major things i need are pistons, cam, and to find hedders that will fit in my truck, i was going to try Flowtech hedders for a 80' f-series 4x4 351, i hope they work

Fun fun, i had a c6 in my 69, while it would have been alot nice with an overdrive, it was a nice transmission, it had i believe a transgo shift kit, shift were firm, nice tranny over all.

Not having overdrive what would it do to your top end?, right now with my NP235 my truck tops out at 50mph, and that sucks!
