hey...when your a redneck, your girlfriend likes to get a lil' closer.
lemme see you do that with a pair of captains chairs.
I chose the captains chairs and center console. I didn't need the extra seating capacity and really like the console shifter. Besides, the wife would frown on me having a girlfriend sitting close.
50/50 bench in the 1990, and wouldnt have it any other way, lets whatever lady is currently riding with me get that authentic "ridin in the middle of his pickup truck..." feeling, and the song is right, it really does turn em on
This was one of my reasons for going 40-20-40. The other is that I am 6'5" tall and on long trips, it's nice to hit cruise control and stretch my legs out. I didn't want to be blocked in by the center console.
I am also 6'5 and have plenty of room for those long drives. The only thing is that I have to lean forward for the sterio.
ive got to agree with corey, im 6'5'' myself and its nice to stretch out now and then, i just cant use cruise conrtol for very long, i cant stand not being in control
Why do we have to make a choice. Right now I have one truck with Captains and one with bench. They each have their place and purpose.
Shortly I will be going back from a truck with Lariat trim to a truck with XL trim. For a while I will miss the gadgets and then I will remember my 1969 International Travelall and be thankful for what I have.
40-20-40. I do not being 'locked' into the drivers side only. I need to be able to move from side to side if need be. This was a consideration for not only day-to-day, but also in an emergency situation.
69 travelall....does that thing even have a heater?
what motor you running?
7magshooter,
I like it...the extra tire also makes the ride a bit better too...and the TA-KO's are some really good tires...
Of course, I like how it drives...when she lets me drive my truck...did I mention that she was a redneck, too?
Sorry to say the Travelall and I parted ways some 28 years ago. It was a 304 automatic and the tranny went wonky and I didn't feel like fixing it so I sold it at auction for about 200 bucks. Dumb, eh!
BTW the Travelall had both a front seat and a rear seat heater. The rear seat one resided under the drivers seat as I remember and had its own heater core.
Now the 61 Travelall that I learned to drive on was one cold mother. I can remember hunting with my dad and grandpa and sitting in the back with my teeth chattering. They would ask how I was occasionally and I would smile weakly and say "fine" the best I could with chattering teeth. When you're 14 years old and hunting deer for the first time you can endure anything.
I shot a buck in the back of the head that year at about 100 yards with my dad's 30-06 and that was the first time I had ever fired it. Scared the hell out of my dad who was sitting beside me as he really didn't think there was a shot. We were sitting on a fairly high hill and the buck was just getting ready to jump over a log when I finished probably the finest trigger squeeze of my life. Still remember that one like it was yesterday. That buck didn't
have much for antlers but the carcass weight hanging at the butchers was 132 pounds.

I got a Lariat which only comes with captains chairs. Not only are they more comfortable, but they look 100% better. IMO
My Lariat has the 40/20/40 seat. I don't see many like that on the lots here, but I ordered mine that way. Both set ups are nice and have their advantages. I wanted the seating flexibility and the column shift. Don't really know why I wanted that, just seemed more truck like at the time.
To all who have said the "Captain Chairs" are "more comfortable".
Closely examine the seats only, not the center console, in both types. As has been stated in this forum dozens of times, the seats are EXACTLY THE SAME.
Ford just uses a different type of center console. One console flips up to reveal a center seat. That converts it to a "Bench Seat. The "Captain Chairs" have just a console between them. But; the seats are the same.
I got the 40-20-40 bench in mine and love it....put the centre up for buds to ride or for whatever...put it down so my elbow can rest and i look cool driving...lol
