Well tonight, at 152501.2 miles, mine died, luckily coming down from a tower site, and not going up. Apon initial realization, I lost reverse, 3,4. With a 45 min trip home, I stopped at sheetz, to check atf, and get some if needed. Fluid was fine. Drove down the road, with 1st, and 2nd, locked the t/c and revved upto 3200 then bang! woohoo 3rd gear! Never did get that 4th back, and everytime it takes 3200 rpms + t/c lock to get third back. Guess its time to upgrade. So for t/c replacement people were pretty much rooting for the precision industries model correct? Im thinking P/I t/c, BTS vb, and a 6.0 cooler to hopefully make this one last forever. Theres a local tranny shop here whom Im confident can do the hard parts of the rebuild so I think thats what will happen. What do you think?
Heres my codes btw
PO733 gear 3 ratio
P1728 trans slip
P0782 2-3 shift.
I think the hard part about tranny rebuild is the actual R&R of the transmission. And that is just time consuming. The deciding factor for me was finding out how much the local shops around here wanted to charge for rebuilds, and then the price just kept going up if you wanted something good and even more if you wanted the best.
Here is the best option to get your tranny to and from BTS or whomever. Log onto uship.com and put the item for shipment bid in. Youll want to check ups or another freight company for the exact price it would cost you then let the bidding for your business begin. The winning bidder for your biz will be able to move the tranny quicker then ups or freight.
Well im pretty confident in the local builder, and he was guessing about 2k but thats without the t/c. Which im thinking the p/i triple disc, and the bts valve body im going to have him put in while its there. Id like to go bts, but i think IIRC people said they are around 4k, then theres shipping etc. and time time time. Since im going to have to get the instrument cluster guage panel, which has two holes for guages, it looks like ill need something to fill the void. In the optix series they now have ICP, and Fuel pressure. Im assuming fuel would be the more important of the two?

Call BTS and see what sort of time they are talking about. They may have one or two laying around. Yes, it is $3900 plus freight but that means it is the last trans you need to buy.
Couple more questions. When you got that price from BTS, what all does it include? Im would imagine that includes a bts vb, but more then likely not the t/c?
Next question. Anyone have any luck with ford remans? I think i remember Kennedyford getting one? but cant remember its life. According to the dealer here, i could get one put in next week, and they would let me supply the t/c i want, and 6oh cooler and vb. According to them its 2700 installed, or i could just get the trans for 2300. Theres a 3 year 75k warrenty on it though. Thoughts?
Be sure about your local builder. I've been there once already. I figured my local shop could do the rebuild, and they did. The problem is that your average tranny shop doesn't understand the power/TQ that these trucks put out. They feel a tranny build is a tranny build is a tranny build. Nothing could be further form the truth, when dealing with our trucks. I say this only because I smoked that tranny with in 3-months. I spent more on Tranny's than I care to admit. I don't have a BTS Tranny, but from what the guys here say. I'd have to say you can't go wrong them. My Tranny was built by Jimmy G of Valley Truck and Trans the second time. He builds race tranny's. Just be sure is all. I hate to hear when folks try to save $ by letting there local shop do the rebuild just to have to pay to have it done right a second time. If you do have your local shop rebuild it just remember that if something happens they will blame it on you mods. NO WARRANTY COVERAGE. From what I hear BTS will cover it! No matter what! Take Care, Country
John Woods also has a replacement tranny program, it was posted on the board a while back by MEATCO do a search or look up MEATCO as a user and find his thread. I think it was about 2900 2year 75K warranty. John Woods and Brian are considered the two best in the biz for a diesel 4R100 tranny. PERIOD.

$3900 is the trans. TC and all. If you drive it there, he installs it for you free. If not, he charges you shipping and when you get it, it is ready to install. Install, dump fluid, box up your old trans and send it off.
You have go fast parts on your car? If it breaks, they will try blame you for it and void your warranty. BTS doesn't care why it broke. They will fix it.

That would be the less built up one with the Ford TC tho. I'm usually skeptical about OEM parts since they are built by the lowest bidder.
Because of that, don't get a Ford reman. They won't honor the warranty if your truck isn't stock.
As for the local builder, there are people on this and other boards who have tried what you are planning to do. Some have had sucess, some have not. It's a gamble. If you do go with your local builder make sure that you know his warranty policy and that he won't have a problem with your mods, or the fact that you are wanting to use a PI T/C, BTS valve body, etc. Some less than honest tranny builders may try to weasel out of covering the trans if it's built differently than their own specs.
