Parking brake

'99...F-350...PSD...2w/d...crew cab...long bed...

I had a recall on my parking brake...after they reworked it the pedal went all the way to the floor before it would catch. Dealer said there was no adjustment. I have since found that there is an adjuster screw...I would like to know which way you turn this screw...up or down for adjustment? Also, does the parking brake have separate shoe, pads, or linings? You can find all kinds of information for the front brakes but none for the rear. Anyone have pictures?

I am sure the moderator will say this is not where it should be but I tried over on the speciality posts forum and did not get much help. Know you boys on the diesel site always are trying to help an old man like me. At least you will tell me something. Thanks.

when you depress the pedal inside it automaticlly adjusts, Just hold the release and press the pedal a few times until you feel it starting to get harder to push. That is how i adjusted mine when i replaced the P brake shoes.
hope this helps

Yes it's the same on srw trucks, I have adjusted mine but can't remember which way to turn. Best way is to jack up rear and put on stands so you can turn the wheel as you adjust untill they start to grab and then back off a click or two.

Thanks for all of the information. I tried to check the guzzle PSD page in hopes that I could find more information on the rear parking brake pads and rear brake pad replacements. Does anyone know of a site where I could get information for the rear? I got a super good post for the front. Looks like Fbilly 420 replaced his rear brakes. Did you just go in blind or did you get some information somewhere? To replace the parking pads do you have to tear out all of the other pads? Thanks.

You should not have to replace the park-brake pads as these don't wear like normal brake shoes or pads would. Although they could wear down if you drove with the p-brake on. As I recall the shoes for the p-brake are quite expensive, like 90 bucks a set.

On mine, I have 4 wheel disc brakes, the parking brakes are drum & shoe brakes mounted behind the disc brakes. The design is a real pita because in order to replace the shoes or drums you have to pull the rear axle for access. Takes a special socket to do this as I recall. There is a slot on the back side to tke up slack but the shoes lining is real thin and if you forget to release the parking brake it will wear off fast.

I had to replace the drums on mine. Looked like the previous owner drove with the parking brake on and chewed everything up once the linings wore off.
