Has anyone did a body drop on a 2wd ? What I mean is pull the spacers out and lay the cab and bed on the frame ? Maybe with some felt wahers or something thin ! Looks like it could drop it 2 inches !!! Just a thought for 2wd guys looking to lower a cheap way .
Try it first then tell me how it goes, I already lowered mine a bit, but I want it lower! I'm going for a rat rod theme, satin black paint job and red stock rims!
Have you looked into a real body drop, cutting up the floor?
I did but way to much work, and money. My truck is just to cruise around in and maybe move some stuff once and a great while! So i'm looking to go the cheap way!
Don't worry I get you wanting to lower it, I know a lot of guys on here look down on it.
I have seen pictures of a 78 or 79 on this site, Fordguy545 has pictures of his slammed truck.
I have installed a fatman IFS kit and got approx 8-9" drop, and have installed a Lincoln Mark 8 engine and tranny in it as well, still working on a cab retrofit to make the dash & plenum fit in.
I have a friend that cut all his mounts in half which might have got him 1" plus or minus
Good question . I am going to get the 3" front axle drop and be done with it . The flaresides sat high in the back , so I have 2" shackles and took out the helper spring which brought it down about 4" . So it will be really raked with a 3" front drop and not to low to be a truck . Check my gallery for pics , savin for paint job . Love these flaresides cause I never see them where I live , so it is a head turner and a classic now as it turned 30 this year .
Take it from a body man its not a good idea to take out the body mount bushings. It you do this your ride will get rougher because there is no relief from the frame because of no bushings. Also the bushings let the cab flex seperate from the frame to a point. Take this out and the cab has to flex exactly witht he frame. Can you say sprung cab? In all logical thought it will spring the cab which means doors and hood wont open correctly. Just my two sense.
You can get new front hangers for the rear springs that will lower the rear by another two inches. That's what I did on mine. These things do sit high!
