When i was working on Mallo's truck this past week, i sent out an oil sample for him on unknown engine oil with unknown miles. I'm sure he will be pretty happy to see this.
Idling I by considering who had the truck before me. When I bought it there was a Jiffy Lube sticker on it that showed it was just coming up due for an oil change when they parked it. The truck had been sitting for a while on top of that (From the inspection sticker at least 6 months.)
When I took it in for new tires I had the alignment checked. We were watching the tech and he headed in. I told the wife "That's not good" he'd been working on it looking concerned for a few minutes at that point.
He came in asked if it was our truck we said yes and still looking concerned he says "Why did you bring it in? I can't do a thing for it but mess it up."
Near as I can tell while they just about buried the dame thing in sand dirt and dust it didn't hurt it none.
Has anyone seen any data or analysis on how much dust can be sucked into the engine and out the exhaust before anything out of the ordinary shows up on OA? I've been searching the internet without success, and trying to do my own analysis based on the ppm in an OA report vs the dilution factor of 16 gal of oil and estimating the gm/min vs CFM getting past a filter with a 99.9% to 99.99% filtration rating, and how much of this dust blows past the rings, and gets into the oil, and a lot of other factors as well.
Jiffy Lube runs their "stickers" on a 3000 mile interval so likely this was a "short" change not a full 5000 miles.
As for the amount of dirt you can suck into and out the exhaust from the pictures Kris took a whole lot.
That said I do plan to swap out the air intake once the trucks back from the last stop it has to make before I can start to abuse... ummm mod it. Didn't want to change it off stock before the first inspection.
Rich i put a 1/4" pipe plug just snug in the port on the transmission. Just enough to stop the leak and flush the cooler out. He's upgrading to a 6.0 cooler soon enough that i'm not worried about it.
