My early 99 came with a cat, took it off when I did the exhaust. original delivery was in Tomball TX but TX doesn't smog test. BTW, I'll buy the beer if you let me come down and get me a MUY GRANDE.
But in TX you've got to get an annual DPS safety inspection and sticker, and if you get a vigilant inspector he can flunk you by just looking under the truck and seeing that you removed the CAT.
I wonder if the inspector could know if it was equipped with one or not? Not really too worried about it though i've been in the car business a long time and i know where the lazy inspectors work. what amazes me is they've never been caught.

That's my thought, because the guy would have to look at my build date on the door jam, and then be very knowledgeable to know that I should have a CAT. My problem is that I've got a side exit exhaust, so it's easily to see that I've been up to something under there. When I'm passing through TX I always look for an out of the way small town place to get my sticker, and so far I'm 8 for 8 with no questions asked except where's my money.
I thought in tx you had to get it inspected in the county where its registered, to keep people with gassers from driving 100 miles to smallville to bypass the emissions test. my sticker says harris county on the front of it.

I guess that's a big city problem. That way I'd have to make a trip back to Polk Co every year which would be a pain, as my favorite place is in the Panhandle right on I-40 where all I have to do is hand the $ and get a sticker. The first time I was there, the guy comes out, and of course I've got the 5er in tow, and its windy, and says I see you're a responsible sort who wouldn't be driving an unsafe truck and put your pretty wife in danger, bring your reg and proof of ins inside where it's warm and get your sticker. I've been there 3 times now, and get the same treatment. But, you do need to get the inspection done to the standards where the truck is registered, and for you I guess that means emissions or whatever. That's why most of the fulltime RVers like me hail from the small town of Livingston where the RV club there forwards mail for over 60K members. It turns out that the DPS that does the safety sticker is independent of the DMV which mails my new license plate sticker each year. I don't even need a safety sticker to get a new sticker for my plate. But I guess if you have emmision checks in your county you need to send that in to get a new sticker for your plate.
