Door Hinges and Corrosion
I've got an '04 6.0 PSD, the driver's side upper door hinge is creaking/cracking when its opened and closed 3/4 of the way or more. The hinge was creaking when I bought the thing in Mar '07. The hinges have been lubed regularly since I got it, no probs with passenger side. I've personally seen 2 other Super Duty trucks (1 gasser and 1 diesel) that had the same problem.
Also, I've got paint flaking off on both A-pillars on the neck where the windshield and hood meet and at the door crown. Approx. 1/2" wide by 3-4" long on four separate spots (two on each side). Now a little corrosion is setting in. The suspect thing is that the flaking pattern is nearly identical on each side. It looks like the paint broke/blistered on the rolled door/pillar edge and it was doomed after that. I'm not an expert body man but that's my forensic opinon.
When I got the truck I beat the guy down on his price for these cosmetic things...not overly concerned cause I'll fix them anyway, but I just want to know if this is a common thing? And, before I go ahead and fix myself would these sorts of things be covered under Ford's corrosion warranty?
Would anyone like to speak to these issues?
It may just be the (check stop) they do tend to break or wear out, which is the black bar that buckweet was talking about. IF you say the hinges are lubed good there must be something broke or worn out, look at the pins and bushings closely and move the door open and closed, you should see something. Probably on the upper hinge. It was probly sprung open in the wind or something at one time, thats what typically causes it.

Checked it out...the check stop is making the clicking noise. Compared it with the passenger side. Checked the door hinges closer and the top driver's side hinge is making some minor noise. Not loose yet....probably just a matter of time before it the door starts to move around. Never changed a hinge on the Super Duty before. Not a problem doing it myself but is there anything I should be careful of when doing so? Anything on the check stop?
Thanks for the help.
Cheers.
