So my 79 crew 4x4 is coming back together. I have the new engine and tranny in and am doing suspension work etc.
However I can't seem to figure out how the reverse light switch on the tranny is wired. I found 2 purple wires to a connector that looks *similar* but not really correct to plug into the np435, but I tried jumping it and it didn't make the reverse lights come on and it's not really the correct connector.
Anyone know what color the wires would be for this on the 79? It seems very strange to me that I can't find this connector.?!?

Purple[ish] with a white line? Running to a two-hole plastic female connector about 1/4" wide? That one might be the connector to the dual brake warning switch on the brake equalizer/distributor/name won't come to me that runs to the brake warning lamp in the IP.
The one you want is white with a pink stripe, and black with a red stripe that runs up to a gray four plug connector near the passenger side firewall wire hole.
holy crap you guys rock. That's so much more help than I expected I can hardly believe it. I'll check it out in the morning and see if I can figure out what's going on. My hats off to all you guys!
Woot! I found it! The connector didn't look at all like I expected, there must be a peice I'm missing which connects from under the hood down to the tranny. Hopefully my parts truck has one.
Thanks again for all the help guys! That wiring diagram will come in handy again I'm sure.
In a couple days I'll take some pictures of the truck all redone and post em up.
I guess I should get the neutral start switch wired too one of these days. I accidently started it in gear one day.. fortunately all I ran over was a pressurized can of oil.. it blew up all over my driveway. hehe.
Is that off the clutch or the tranny? I haven't seen anything in my travels that supports it in the transmission area. Again I have the np435 std. Thanks!
