Cummins Fuel Mileage

I have a friend that has a 2006 Dodge Cummins 2500 with an Edge Juice with Attitude. He says that he gets 18 MPG on the highway and about 22 MPG in the city. Assuming his numbers are accurate, what would cause that? I have never heard of somebody getting better mileage in town than on the highway. Thanks for the input!

I thought he made a simple mistake too....the first time he told me. The problem is, he has told me since the day he bought his truck (almost a year and a half ago) that he gets better mileage in town than he does on the highway. He says his dads (a 2003 Cummins) gets better in town than the highway as well. He's not the most reliable person, but for some reason I don't think he is BS'ing me on this one, its an awful long time to keep up with a lie, and for no reason.

I think he drives a Dodge, so obviously he is retarded .... Other than that, it could be gearing... If he drives really hard on the highway with a lot of accel and decel, and cruising at 100, he could probably do better in the city. Other than that, there is no explanation... Sometimes I want to make myself feel good, so I get up to speed, reset my mileage calculator, and then coast. It tells me I get 99mpg

I have a friend with an '05 Dodge with the HO Cummins and the auto trans, and he gets the same mileage as me, or close to it.

What do you make of that?! He really has no reason to lie...

Thats what I mean, he has no reason to lie. He knows what mileage I get in my truck, and I expect him to get better in his just because it is quite a bit lighter, and chipped, so I don't think he has a reason to lie. He does do some "my truck can outrun your mustang even with a trailer" on the highway, so maybe that is it. As far as him being retarded for owning a Dodge, I think you are right.

well, technically, it's your wife's mustang he could possibly out run... Does he know how she drives?!

It's unlikely he could ever back up his mileage statement with facts, and I doubt if I drove your wife's mustang, that he could beat me with his trailer hooked up either.

he owns a dodge, he's looking for something to talk about, since you: #1 have a nicer truck, #2 own a mustang, &: #3 likely have a better looking wife that gets to drive #2 (and you as well)....

I guess he is just trying to make himself feel better. Ever since I got my truck, (about 3 months after he got his), he has tried to "one up" me with everything, especially since he found out my truck has more room, is more comfortable, has a clutch that can last longer than 1,500 miles, etc. I just thought maybe there was some truth to his statement since he has stuck with it for so long, but maybe not. Thanks guys!

By the way, even with my wife driving, she could outrun him!
