i went to the auto shop to see about getting a conversion kit to put in my 360 to make it a 390. when i got there the man said he didn't carry anything like that. i was wondering were i could get one or if i would have to buy each part seperately.i need some help because my engine is apart and i don't have a ride. thanks
The rings will need replaced and will more than likely come separate. You can get complete kits for a 390 rebuild then just add a 390 crank and rods. The bearings should also be replaced to be rid of any imperfections that you would not want rubbing on your newly surfaced crank. A new set of rings and bearings will be under 100 bucks.
Robert! I am thinking that some damage control is in order here. By your some of your questions, I have to ask about your skill level, experience and budget for this project. You need to tell us were you are now in the project. Have you disassembled the engine? Have you had a machine shop measure cylinder bore and taper. Has the block been checked for cracks. If you have pulled the crankshaft, did you put a punch mark on number 1 and 2 main bearing caps or at least keep the main bearing caps in order? Are the pistons out of the engine? Did the pistons come out easily or did you knock them out? I am trying to get an idea about how to advise you from here. Why do you think the engine needed to be overhauled? Post back and we'll go from there.

bearing caps are all numbered, if you clean'em, even
#1,#2. A simple measure of the bore to see what needs to be taken
off, and proper boring will get cylinders fixed,as for bashing
360 pistons out, who cares unless your gonna run 10 to 1 compression
in the 390 with cast 360 pistons.
One more thing, do not buy a rebuild kit for a truck 390, when
you can get a rebuild kit for a 60's vintage car 390. The car
and truck 390 are identical, but the 390 out of a car will
give 9.6 to 1 compression for the same price.
