I just had a remoter alarm/starter installed in my 05 250 and I'm wondering if the Ford has a glow plug wire that the installer should have tapped into instead of just setting a delay timer. I'm a bit upset at the overall install and this item would probably set me over the edge....
On the '02s there isn't a seperate glow plug wire to tap. It all runs through the PCM. I don't know for sure on your truck, but I'll bet it's the same. I installed my alarm and set it up on a 10 second delay for the glow plugs (year round).

Yeah, that is the problem with the newer trucks. There is probably a way to tap directly into the cluster and through a relay, but delay is the only way to go for the most part. You could tap into the GPR, but since that is on for a couple of minutes sometimes your truck would never start!
I wasn't happy about it either, having the 15 second delay when the truck is already warm. I've gotten used to it, not a big deal anymore.

The delay on warm days is a bit annoying, but I'm actually more concerned in the dead of winter that the delay may not be enough. We get some mighty (-40) cold nights at times...
On mine you can set it for different times. 10, 20 or 30 if i remember right. Check your alarm owners manual and it should tell you how. What brand did you buy? Maybe someone can tell you how.

I have installed two of these, one on my 01 7.3 and now on my 05 6.0 and used the Ford boxes with remote start and door locks. They both use the timer which I recall is set at 15 seconds. They work great. As far as the winter, I always plug my truck in if it is below 0 and it starts great.

If its set for 10 secs,it border line for the light during the winter.Mine was set like that also,i had my doubts that it would be long enough, but it was.Just real close.
I now have mine set to 20 secs, gives the plugs a little more time to warm up.
I put an aftermarket remote start/alarm on my buddies 01 F250, and wired it in to the wait to start wire. It is a pretty straightforward process, and as soon as the light goes off, the truck starts to crank. Almost every major manufacturer of remote starts has a wire to connect to your wait to start on a diesel.
I'm not concerned with the remote system's capabilities (Compustar), but whether the installers screwed up this install. To my mind, hooking into the glow plug ready wire makes more sense than running off of a timer. The installers put it on a timer, so I just wanted to know whether they were incompetent or if the 05 diesels were too much of a pain to expect them to do it that way

that would not be the way to do it. the GPR can keep the glow plugs energized for up to two minutes after the WTS light goes off. the way to it, if you did not want the timer is to tap into the WTS light cuircut as jomac11 said

It is not hard at all to hook into the wait to start wire, the only thing they have to do is snip the wire, and put in a diode so that the alarm doesnt backfeed into your gauge cluster and short it out. It is probably faster to hook it up that way then it is to setup a timer.
I'm gonna have to check a couple of wiring diagrams, but the problem here is that there is not a wait to start wire. I know for a fact anything newer than 02 doesn't have one, b/c i looked into this with my R/S and a friends 07 R/S. It is controlled by a data line from the PCM, and the cluster internally lights the indicator.
