Easiest way is to look at where the thermostat housing bolts up. The 351c will bolt up flush with the top of the block ( distributor and t-stat housing on same level). On the 400/351m the block rises about an inch and the thermostat housing bolts to the raised piece of the block (Thermostat bolts on on a raised lip, about an inch above where the distributor base rests.).
