351c and 400 have different bellhousing bolt patterns, except a few 400 have 302/351w/351c pattern. There is a c4 bellhousing available with 351m/400/460 bolt pattern.
No offence, but I gotta agree with tdup, the C4 may be fine, but in this case, bigger is better, and there are a lot more C6s than C4s available, IMO, for this engine... should be easier to find and cheaper to buy.
There is no doubt that a very well built and modified c-4 can handle a lot. But if it does give it up get a PRO-Built c-6. A well built c-6 can move monster trucks. I have never seen a c-4 in one.
The 400 is a low rpm torque motor, the 351C is a high rpm HP motor. This subjects the transmission to different types of stress. Use a C6 behind a 400. If you have a built 400 make sure you have a built C6 also. Match the components...
