I have the truck in my Sig and tow a bunch with it.
I have towed up to 6,800 pounds before (bobcat) with my 8x16ft tandem axle trailer with electric brakes on both axles and the truck did a great job.
I have also towed many other things like 2 yards dirt, 3 yards of rock, a pallet and a half of sod, concrete and lumber for a 12x14 deck and this is just what I can think of right now.
I wish I would have taken some pictures of all of the other stuff, but o well. Here are some pictures of a pallet of concrete, total weight with trailer about 5000 pounds. Plus 8 80pound bags of concrete in the bed, as you can see the truck only squatted about 2 inchs. The truck towed it very well, I was very impressed over my 02 F150.

And here is the new 8x16 trailer

Just make sure you get the 5.4 w/ 3.73 Ls rear.
hopes this helps

I have a 2006 5.4, 4X4 SCAB, Lariat, with 3:73 rear gear.
Now, my towing life is out west. Here we almost all the time, when going camping, climb 7000 to 10,000 foot passes.
Having said that, I love my F-150, but it will soon grow up to be a Super-Duty F-350 with a 6.4 turbo desiel!
On flat ground the F-150 rocks, but constantaly pulling steep grades, it sucks. And it will die soon. So I will spare its life, and grow it to a big boy!
I tow 5600 lbs wet!

I also have an 07 FX4 5.4l and I tow the boat and the car both about 5k loaded with dual axles. No real problem, just make sure you take your time. Now this is only from time to time, not every weekend. If I did this a lot more I might look for a bigger truck but for just now and again from 1 to 3hr trips my truck does just fine.
