Excursion with a 6.oh?

Ok guys, its been a while and the time has come....my wifes due in Oct and the lexus just won't cut it. Here's my situation, I had an 00 Ex that was a great truck, no problems but I flipped it on the highway back in 02. So to replace it I bought a used one that was a lemon...tranny at 62K, new oil leaks every month, ball joints, electric door locks, seals, and the final straw was an injector at 114K.

I'm very hesitant to buy another "problem"....my wife dosen't even like the ford but we need something to tow the boat.

So, what do you guys think? How many problems have you Ex drivers had with the later model 6.0's. The one I'm looking at is an 05 and has 25K on it, so I know the warranty is good for another 75K but my wife drives 30K a year.

What do ya think?

I have an 06 with the diesel and 12K miles. Only changed the oil 2x and no problems. I traded my 02 gas in for the 05 diesel 4x4 EB. Love it!

Why not find a 03 7.3 or 02?

I like the updated look of the 05 front end, and the 7.3 is louder than I like nowadays. The relaibility issue of this vehicle scares me. I live in CA and work in TX most of the week, if this thing breaks down it's my wife who will have to deal with it.

Edit: I just noticed your sig dougger...I had 2 86 GLH's(not the Shelby like yours) man were those fun cars. Now I got a 04 Mystichrome Cobra #479 of 515

get the newest one possible. my late '05 has been perfect, my brothers early '04 not so much. mine has never been to the dealer or had any thing needed to be fixed. I have 37k mile on mine now--all I have done is change the oil every 5k or less and I did the trans fluid at 28k. probly 15k of those miles are towing 4k-9k lbs

I have a 2005 X with 85,000 + miles and I have had no problems. Just remember that the 6.0 does not like to sit. If it will be the wife's daily driver all should be fine.

Thanks guys, I'm just waiting on the Oasis on it to return to see if its as good as it looks.

One last thing are you guys changing the oil at 5K because if you go longer the EGR will get clogged? Can it be easily cleaned?

EGR can get clogged no matter what. I think in the 6.0 forum someone said if they sit and idle a lot the the ERG will clog faster but I don't know.
5k for the oil is what Ford says, I don't think you can change your oil too much--its up to your wallet. I've gone on a few trips (2k+ miles) that were only towing and I would change the oil at 4k miles.....clean oil IS NOT a bad thing!
