Hey all, I know I have seen this info on here somewhere, but couldn't find it in a search. I am using a 6637 filter until I can afford the AIS and was wondering where to mount that air temp sensor? Can a guy mount it in the 4" piece of exhaust tubing required for the Kwik mod?
I've seen a number of reports that suggest the PCM uses the AIT data for fueling. Don't know if that's true, but many report better drag ET's when they insert the AIT sensor into the rubber turbo inlet boot so that the sensor see's the cooler air there. To me it doesn't sound like a good idea for safety reasons, but people do it, and claim better performance.
Where does this sensor go when people put in an Air Raid system or the like with aftermarket setups that just have a cone or divider? I am curious to know what the instructions with these kits say.
Also, Gene what are the safety reasons/concerns you have with the the AIT inserted into the turbo inlet boot? Thanks in advance.

If it comes loose, it will go into the turbo! The OEM sensor is designed to go in the air stream, but upstream of the filter element in the OEM air box where even at a 500 CFM flow the air flow velocity less that 20 mph. In the tapered boot leading to the turbo inlet, the velocity exceeds 150 mph!
I've seen several threads on FTE claiming the benefit I mentioned, and I posted on at least one of them about my concerns for damage.

I've never seen any of those reports or ET's. Zip tie the senzor next to the air filter and you're getting the same intake temp readings as you would if it was mounted post-filter. How would you get colder air inside the intake tube if all that air is being drawn from the same engine compartment area?
