I put a set of train horns on my truck a couple weeks ago. I was wondering where my stock horns are located. Which wire do I hook my trigger wire for my solenoid to? My horn solenoid uses an all-time ground and a momentary positivs system. I want it hooked up so that when I use the panic button or lock my truck, the train horns will sound. I have a 2004 crew cab superduty with a PSD if that helps with the wiring diagram. Thanks for your help.
Are you trying to completely remove the stock horns? Most people wire up a switch to a relay so they can select between regular horn and air horn. You can't have it setup so that the air horns will work with the alarm system only (at least not easily).
I hope you don't live in a populated area. Blasting the train horns everytime you lock the truck is a bit of a nusiance to the public.
No, I am not trying to remove the stock horns. I have a switch already to select between air horns and stock horns, but it is wired from the horn switch on the steering wheel. I was wondering if I could find the wire that runs out to the stock horns before it leaves the cab and make my connections there. I think that when you press the horn button, you send a request to a computer and then to the horns. Is there somewhere online I can find a wiring diagram?
I wired mine directly from the steering wheel horn button where it is - triggered, but Bear Hunter shows where you can hook in behind the fuse panel for a + trigger horn wire.
Tie it in behind the fuse panel, press the horn and listen for the relay. Do not go to column, the horn trigger coming off your column is a ground trigger in the yellow airbag sleeve cable. If you do use this trigger, do not test with test light use a digital multimeter.
