I have no reason to believe my trans. will go out, other than the 114k it has on it and the fact that it is from the “mechanical diode” era. But for some reason I've got this sneaking suspicion that during my Minneapolis Minnesota to Orlando Florida (and back) drive in Sept that something just might…
I’ve read a bit on this forum about Brian’s Truck Service (BTS) rebuilds as well as Factory Tech’s. FT has loads of specifics on there site while BTS has very little. FT comes in right around $3800 w/ 18 month warranty (P&L) while BTS is $3900 w/ 2 year warranty (parts only?).
I’m wondering if any of you have specific experience with either of these options, or can recommend something else. I really want to have all of my ducks in a row so that if something does go wrong the research is already done, and the call amounts to “Do it! Here’s the shipping address.’
All the talk on the Ford boards is to go with the BTS tranny.Brian is supposed to be the best when it comes to building an unbreakable 4R100.
I just got one from him yesterday so it's not in yet but I hoping for good results.(I'm doing a 4r70w to 4r100 swap in order to hold the power i'm putting out)
Let me beat on it for a wile and I'll get back to ya....lol.
I'm running a BTS right now, and nothing beats it. The warranty states two year coverage, but Brian has consistently gone over and above any warranty to make sure he satisifies his customers. When you talk to people who have a BTS transmission, they all say the same thing about how strong the trans is, and how great the service is before and after the sale. Remember though, the transmission will eventually break just like any other drivetrain component on your truck.
This and other forums are full of praises for BTS. Here's one from just the other day at the Colorado Powerstroke Club. Guy broke his BTS and here's what he said about the service he received WAY after his warrany expired. http://www.coloradopowerstrokeclub.c...ad.php?t=11957
Good luck trying to get Factory Tech or anyone else to do what Brian does.
I'm about 4 hours from Brian's and ALL the Missouri guys swear by him. Several of them are racers as well and say he's the best of the best for a 4r100.
BTS is very protective of what they do to the transmission. Four Wheeler (i think) did an article on a BTS trans install and they weren't allowed to photograph any of the rebuild process.
BTS's rep is excellent, but I still have issues with a company that is worried about that kind of stuff. Everyone else out there will give you specifics of what they do. Maybe BTS is so magical they can't. But for almost 4000, I'd want to know what I was getting.

I don't know where you would get that info, but Brian lets customers and anyone else stand right next to him while he builds a transmission. Plenty of folks here on this forum and others have done just that. There's no secrets, and he'll explain to you during the rebuild process what he does and how he's different.
I had inquired a ways back about it and didn't get much info on what was so special to justify the cost.
Also like I said they didn't want any photography of the rebuild when the magazine purchased one of their units for a project truck. I'll try and find the article.
That is my VERY LIMITED experience and $.02 about BTS. At the time I was working at a shop and researching several options for my own personal truck as well as that of other customers. I had sent an email requesting specifics and never got a reply. On the phone, a lady told me it was about $3900 and seemed very hesitant to provide specifics. So all I had to try and sell the trans was "It's a BTS, you should get it" Pretty much the response I've seen on the forums as well. "Get a BTS, it's bullet proof" Unfortunately in this industry I've heard that a lot and it was a steep investment.
The customer ended up purchasing a Jasper Transmission and was very happy with that decision.
