Looking at buying a 08 SuperDuty F-250 Crewcab 4x4, shortbed. Just drove one with a 5.4 4x4 and it was just a little to slow.....when you are use to driving a 460 powered trucks around. So, my question when ordering a new SD and for the extra $600 for the optional V-10 engine it seems it would be worth it and I have not even drove V-10 truck yet because my dealer mainly stocks Diesel trucks. Also the mileage has to be pretty close, to a 5.4 and wouldn't have to struggle to keep up "Hopefully". Also for the V-10 when ordering is the 4.10 LS good enough or would you opt for the 4.30 LS? With the 5 speed automatic tranny, I only pull a 20' car hauler trailer and a 555 FarmTrac tractor with a loader and brush hog occasionally. The truck will get some 35" tires and the front level kit to make it sit level. Also going to order it minus carpet and the 4x4 shifter in the floor "Old School Style"
Just wanting a solid daily driver truck to pull 6-9,000 pounds sometimes....
Get the V-10. The mileage will be about the same but the power will be alot higher with the V-10. The V-10 will not develop full power till around 5-8000 miles on the clock. Definately get the 4.30's. The bigger tires and the load you plan to pull will need those gears. Congrats on the new truck purchase.
yep def. v10...i have the 5.4 and i dont tow a pound with it and its perfect for me but my sisters b/f towed his jeep and it was a dog through west virginia...on the flats it was fine but i wouldnt wanna tow with it that often...im putting 35's and a 6" lift on next week and then i wouldnt even wanna tow anything considering its going to be a complete pig...600 bucks is a hell of a deal for the amount of power...

p.s. my dads 04 v10 CC dually has 97000 on the clock and only thing hes done is oil changes(in which he usually goes well over 5k miles in between) and a driver side ball joint...solid reliable motor...i feel the v10 will def. out last the 5.4 in a SD truck because there will be less strain on the v10...GO GET ER!!! and post some pics!!!
Go for the V10. I love mine. Never have regreted anything. I have a DRW V10 dump truck at work and I have had 12K+ pounds in the bed and it pulled it just fine. The story behind that was I went to the sand yard in the middle of the night for sand and salt fix during a snow storm. The guy loading be gave me 2 huge scoops with a Michigan. The truck sagged but pulled fine. Drove to the scale and went in to sign to reciept and the reciept stated 6.35 tons. Holy crap.

i got 13.5 outta my 5.4 this week and that almost ALL city driving...my dads v10 cant even come close to breaking 11...so i dont think unloaded numbers are actually close like everyone says but the v10 will get better towing mileage...unless someone is getting 13.5 city in their v10..i stand corrected

I had a 99 with the V-10. Have an 04 now with the V-10. Plow snow with both and never have had any problems. Last week I was pulling a 14' dump trailer with 3500lbs of gravel and a track loader in it. Pulled it just fine with the V10.
v-10, get the 4.30's since the 35's are going on it, buddy had a 00 350 v-10 4.10's got 11 mpg stock, we put exhaust and an intake on it and it jumped up to 14, headers would make it even better
Get the 4.30 if you're putting on 35" tires and will ever tow. There aren't many things you can do to increase mileage on the 2005+ trucks because the exhaust is pretty good stock. You'll probably get 10 - 13mpg.
