Hi guys. I got a bad wastegate valve or the actuator is bad. I found the two prong plug that runs to it and unplugged it. Will this harm anything by not having a working wastegate? Thanks
Our trucks dont have a wastegate on them, its an exhaust back pressure valve. The wategates came out on the 99s. It wont hurt a thing to have it unpluged, just be sure that the valve is in the full open position so your exhaust will flow freely.
You can take off that clamp and look at the flap, but id say if you think its running great and its staying cool you are ok and its open. There are some guys the flap out completly. I turned mine into an exhaust brake that works pretty good.
You'd better go get a fresh beverage and fluff up your seat cushion before you sit through a reading of the whole post!
But it is a great write-up of the process (followed by a spirited discussion of its value compared to commercial products)
I did a bunch of things to my truck this summer and I kept thinking there was something else I had wanted to do....
This mod was what I had been thinking of but completely forgot. My weekends are shot until October, but I have a few hours tomorrow and I may give it a shot, too.
We are leaving for camping early Saturday morning and I'll be dragging a 4k camper through the mountains of PA. Should give me a pretty good idea of how this mod works if I can get it done before I leave.
ford says not to as our turbos and valve train wernt designed for it, i can say from experience that the 2 halves of the turbo have worked loose on many trucks that had them installed
if i say yes then a hundred will will shoot me down so i'll say its personal preference, fors says dont do it but they also say a chip will blow your truck up and look at what we have all done, i would say that if you were going to use the ebv or a real jake brake then use care, dont abuse it and do periodic turbo inspections like bearing play and the 4 bolts that hold the case together for tightness. that is all i have personally see go wrong, i have never seen the proclaimed valvetrain failure that ford calls for
