unless the wind is causing serious drag, i wouldn't really worry about it. any kind of "jimmy rig" until you get a new one will just look even more tacky than the hole itself. but if you must...maybe some strips of black electrical tape??? i personally wouldn't worry about it.
Been there and done that! Like was said above, I wouldn't worry much about it. Mine had the entire amber cover broken off and half of the LED strip missing...and the rest of the LEDs kept functioning until I replaced the covers.
FYI, I tried to just order the amber section but couldn't. They had to get me the entire back of the mirror which included the amber section with LEDs and the back cover.
Where are you located? I used to have a spare black cover for the passenger side mirror. Mine is a King Ranch and has the painted to match covers which are smooth, not like the pebbled black covers. If I can find it we can probably help you out.
why waste the time trying to fix it and then cover it. if he wants to keep the black cover, just suck it up and buy a new one. if he wants to change it to chrome, then he should just cover it and not worry about trying to fix it first. OH, AND DUCT TAPE??? GET REAL. i dont know about the rest of you, but duct tape will not ever see its way on anything i own. unless it came that way from the factory.

Wow, that's something that I keep in my truck at all times!
To answer the original poster's question, I would take that lens out and put a little screen or something behind the hole then use 4min quick setting JB weld. You can sand it smooth so it doesn't look too bad. Just be sure to scuff the plastic so it takes good, the 3m 2" locking discs with scotch brite pads work great when working with JB.
