I'll try to make a long-story short...I bought new tires for my early 1999 F350 dually with 4 wheel ABS last week. Took it to a reputable alignment shop in Reno to be aligned after the tires were put on. While prepping to do the alignment, they found that the drivers side wheel bearing was in need of replacement. Ordered part and twice the wrong part was sent by the supplier (I was waiting for my truck, so I got to see this). Finally, I had my daughter pick me up and went to get the truck the next day. Huge bill for the bearing/hub, alignment is all in spec's now. I travel down the road about 10 minutes and the ABS light comes on. I DO NOT think it is coincidental with the repair of the front bearing/hub assembly.
I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into troubleshooting ABS system problems, or am I at the mercy of a shop? I disconnected each ABS lead behind the front wheel wells and replugged them in. Still have ABS light on. Any help would be most appreciated.
on my 99 with ony rear abs when i changed my rear calipers my abs light would come on the same time yours does. did that for about a month or so then stopped, hasn't came on since and abs functions properly. not sure what caused this, maybe dirty sensors, yours might just need cleaning
That was it guys !!! Thank you for pointing me towards the ABS sensor at the differential. I would have bet that the guy who installed the hub/bearing assembly had damaged the ABS tooth ring...and I would have been wrong. Installed the sensor in the parking lot and immediately the ABS light no longer comes on!
