Well, I am leaving the Ford stable and moving to a new ride. My trusty Ranger was getting some mileage on it and I have been thinking of replacing it. Still need a truck that can tow a trailer and looking for better gas mileage. Since Ford is about to abandon the Ranger line I decided to look elsewhere. I ended up buying a 2007 Dodge Dakota SLT. The "Lifetime Powertrain Warranty" and 0% financing was really the deciding factor (not to mention they are hungry to deal right now!)
This forum has been extremely helpful and I want to thank all who have bailed me out of problems and just provided me with interesting reading. I hope I can find something equally informative regarding the Dakota.
"HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?" Ha Ha . If I didn't buy ford, I would also go with chrysler, even with fords, I still have and buy jeeps, pretty much have my whole life. I really liked the dak up untill 04, but just can't gets by arms around the new look. However, the look is supost to change for 08, it needs something. If for some reason I couldn't get my beloved fords, japanese isn't even an option, I hate gm, so that leaves chrysler, good luck !!!!!!!!!
I always considered my '92' Dakota the best truck I'd ever owned. I like my Ranger but miss my Dakota (the interior was larger, got as good gas mileage, rode better). I gave up on owning another one because of the quality issues Dodge was having when they joined MB. Now that Chrysler is on it's own they might get back to caring about quality again. Lifetime warranty sounds good but will it be, time will tell. Good luck with your new ride, hope you can find as good a forum as this one for help. And if you should decide to come back to the blue oval we will be here to welcome you back.
i have had chrysler minivans for the last thirteen years or so and i tend to get a new one every few years. I had an 89 a 93 a pair of 97s and now an 03. I buy them second hand with from 18K to35K on them. My 03 has 54K on it and im waiting for the transmission to go it slips has no power up hills etc. I wish you luck with your new truck but if the vans are any indication of how chrysler builds em i wouldnt want one. I need the chrysler vans because they are handicap equipped .. next time i should be able to get a ford with the conversion i need
your mileage wont be a any better with the dakota, the 3.7 six when we drove was a dog when trying to acceralte at highway speeds (the 3.0 i just bought has more go at highway speeds), but none the less sounds like you got a good deal, so best of luck.
