I have a '97 F-150 XL 4.2. i recently got a letter in the mail from the ford company saying i have a recall named "fuel inpection recall." anyone else ever get this recall? if you haven't maybe you should ask about it. is there anymore recalls out there? i have 100,000 miles on my truck and i love it, but it seems to have a lot of probs lately. when i drive for about 20 minutes my OIL PRESSURE drops completely and the oil light comes on. i think i may hear my mains knocking now. soon i believe i'll need a new motor. maybe its possible that the fuel line has something to do w/ this oil pressure thing, b/c the oil pressure only drops when i stop at redlights and stuff. if i press the brake a little harder and give it a little gas (i got an automatic) the oil light goes off and the pressure goes back to normal. (fuel line inspection may have something to do w/ that, the idle and stuff) i also got someone to price a new remanufactured engine for the 4.2 from the ford company its $2,800. does that sound right? 24,000 mile warranty. -(ain't much huh). if i got a remanufactured motor would my oil pressure eventually drop again you think the next 100,000 miles? from my understanding this seems to be a common 4.2 problem. anyway, please post back.

Consider yourself lucky. I also have a 97 with the 4.2L, but my motor has your problems at 45K miles! I change the oil every 3-5K miles, drive reasonably, but still, the dealer tells me I need a long block...
WRT the fuel line recall - no big deal - take it in a do it, but be ready for them to tell you that you need a new engine. As far as prices go, that sounds right - a Jasper replacement is $3,057...
