Change Tire Size
Well I think may have jumped the gun when I ordered 285/75 or /70 R16 BF Goodrich AT's for my F-150, but as you all know the stupid 235/70 Firestone AT Wildernesses that came on the truck look like #####. To top it all off you think we would get a free pair of tires c/o the recall...##### no. I got 20,000 miles on my truck and I need new ones ASAP.
I have:
1999 Ford F-150 XL
Flareside
5-speed Manual
4.2 V6
3.55
4x4
Can any of you guys give me some feedback on me putting 285/70 or /75 R16s on my truck without any modifications. I would have to say it's too late to change size because they are coming Monday. So hopefully I hear something in the 285's favor...PLEASE!
Thanks All,

I just replaced the puny Wilderness tires on my 98XL 4.2 from 235/70/16 to a much taller LT235/85/16 and they fit just fine. No rubbing from stop to stop and they fill up the wheel well much better. The taller tires also increased ground clearance by 2" and that helps getting through the sugar-sand and muck when you get off the road down here in S. Fla. One minor problem: the speedo is off about 3mph. When the speedo says 30 your actually going 33. (found out going through a radar trap...Doh!)
Best regards...
Tom
