.... Or is it so much easier and inviting to read posts with punctuation which are broken up into reasonable paragraphs?
No offense intended to anyone but I so very often see posts that are huge and are one single paragraph. I look at them and wonder, do I really want to work that hard to read the thing? Is it that interesting or important enough for the effort?
Don't get me started on run-on sentences! Now I'm the pitiful product of public education with only a high school degree and I didn't do that well in English so I may not be the best one to complain here but ....... I'm just a dumb ol' sheet metal worker.
Spelling..... we have automatic spell checkers now people! I love those things, they are life savers to me! I'd really look ignorant if not for them. I think everyone should use them.
I guess I'm just a crusty old fart with nothing better to do than complain.....
i dont no wat ur taklin bout cuz i thnk is rely ez to red wen peppl tipe wat evr dey wont and den u can red cuz its not hrad evn wen theirs no puctiashun adn all won centense but if u new hwo to red is nto tat hrd
Ok, that's all I could get in before I started getting a headache. You wouldn't believe how much work that actually was.
But yeah, you're right. People just need to put some effort into what they write.
I'm with you on this one. To me it's almost painful to see that spelling and grammar are going the way of the typewriter and the black and white tv.
I used to occasionally pop into a board about RC cars to see if I could get some tips on mine and not surprisingly that board was over run with high-school and younger kids that just don't care to take a second to make sure what they're writing is at least a little bit readable.
This very subject popped up from time to time on that board and the general consensus was, "you can read it so what's the problem? I don't want to waste MY time checking MY spelling and I could care less about grammar, you'll still understand me"
To me, that's a VERY arrogant approach... especially when you're asking other people for help. Lately I have a tendency to just skip over messages that are just one big run-on without punctuation and use "modern" spelling.
Wow... that sure made me feel old writing that. Excuse me, now I have to go tell the neighbor kid to turn that darn music down! lol.
I can't stand reading posts without the proper grammer or punctuation. It just confuses me to no end. Of course spelling errors and typos will happen. I know I make plenty of them.
ASM....You didn't happen to read that thread started this morning about what it means to be a man and getting a man's attention with a knee on the throat, did you?.......

No, I missed that one, I'll go check it out.......
I woulda swore that was your "muse" for this thread....That OP had all the hallmarks of bad grammar, sentence, and essay structure......and it was recent.

Yeah, I assumed that's what brought this thread on too...
I'm also the product of the public school system and I did retain at least some of it.Spell checkers are great but I still use the old fashioned dictionary. It serves me well as it makes think about what I am writing.
It also assists my efforts not to come across as an illiterate lout.
Although I do admit that I am guilty of typing in one big paragraph. I seem to do it without thinking on boards like this, but when it comes to actually writing something for school, you wouldn't believe how quickly I shape up (without thinking about it too). I guess I wil have to pay more attention when making long posts.
IMO, the writer should make it easy for other people to read.
The one thing I can't understand is people just have to see words (when they read them) that they spell incorrectly..... "spelled correctly" by other people ... but still continue on spelling them wrong themselves.
IE:
Witch for Which
Weather for Whether
Your for You're (a contraction for "You are")
There ,Their, They're
Silinoid for Solenoid
